Dear Friends,
During this time time of the year, the library runs its annual fundraising campaign to replace funds lost in state budget costs. The library has lost a total of 33% of their state aid funding since 2002. This is a great time for the community to show its support of our local library!
We have so many wonderful, supportive community members and businesses who take time out of their day to raise funds to show how much they love their library.
As an answer to state budget cuts, Glenn and Carole Johnson, formerly of Scottdale, have issued a challenge to run alongside this campaign. They have challenged Scottdale Library Patrons to a "Matching Funds Grant". For each $1.00 we raise, the Johnsons will match donations up to $4,800. This is $100.00 for each year their daughter, Beth Ann, would have celebrated on her birthday. Beth Ann was killed in the terrorist bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie Scotland.
Another example is Dr. Jennifer Siwula Gill and her dentistry staff. She and her staff painted beautiful pictures. You can stop by her office and for $1.00 you can vote for your favorite one. Dr. Gill will match all votes and donate proceeds to the library.
Baily's Learning Center, a local preschool had a bake sale and donated proceeds to the library. And a local family donated proceeds from a lemonaid stand! We appreciate all who show their love for the library!
We have set our total goal at $15,000.00 this year. Can you join us as we strive to meet this goal and work towards meeting the Johnson Challenge? For every donation made, a heart will be placed in the library window. Please help show our state representatives windows filled with red hearts when we send them a picture on March 24th (Beth Ann Johnson's birthday).
Please fill out a form at the library or go to our website and make your donation. Or surprise us! What ways can you think of to show your love? Every donation is appreciated and will help us toward our goal!
